About Us

In 1989, a group of civic-minded wine and food enthusiasts had a vision of creating a series of events to raise money for charity. Out of this vision the Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend was born and has contributed over $3.2 million dollars to the local community. The goal of the Weekend is to create an educational and fun series of events. Over time the event has grown in stature and notoriety, attracting guest winemakers from around the world.

Organizations such as Junior Achievement, A Child’s Place, Charlotte Emergency Housing for Women, Allegro Foundation, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and Hospitality House of Charlotte have benefited from past Weekends’ proceeds.

Proceeds from the 2010 Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend will benefit a variety of organizations that provide nourishment to Mecklenburg County youth. Collectively, these agencies nurture the whole child (body, mind and spirit) by focusing on such issues as education, child abuse and neglect, homelessness and hunger.

The recipents for the 2010 Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend are Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, Council for Children’s Rights, Johnson & Wales University, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, and the W.I.S.H. Program (Workforce Initiative for Supportive Housing).

The 2008 Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend was one of the region’s largest charitable fundraisers, hosting over 3,000 guests and raising $540,000 for our charities. During the Weekend, guest speakers included Antonio Galloni of Robert Parker’s Advocate, Eric Solomon of European Cellars and Leonardo LoCascio of Winebow. Our guests hosted and moderated five sold-out wine tastings. Additionally, over forty respected winemakers attended, including Dick Ward of Saintsbury Vineyards, Robert Foley of Robert Foley Vineyards and Sarah and Sparky Marquis of Mollydooker Winery.

The Weekend’s guest list includes some of the country’s top corporate executives and local community leaders. Over the years the Charlotte event has joined the ranks as such famed wine events as Atlanta’s High Museum of Art Wine Auction, L’Eté du Vin in Nashville, and the Florida Winefest.
